2025 Songshan Lake Interdisciplinary Materials Science Forum & 5th JMST Frontier Innovation Symposium Concluded Successfully

From November 14 to 16, 2025, the 2025 Songshan Lake Interdisciplinary Materials Science Forum & the 5th JMST Symposium on Frontier Innovation in Materials Science and Technology was successfully held at the Songshan Lake Campus of Dongguan University of Technology. Co-hosted by the Journal of Materials Science & Technology and the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dongguan University of Technology, the event was co-organized by Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, Liaoning Zhongke Boyan Technology Co., Ltd., and Dongguan Eontec Co., Ltd.


Centering on cutting-edge advances in materials science, additive manufacturing, advanced metallic materials, solidification and phase transformation regulation, extreme environment manufacturing technology, and material service behavior, the forum aimed to build a high-level academic exchange platform, facilitate in-depth integration of basic research and engineering applications, and jointly drive the high-quality innovative development of materials science and technology in the Greater Bay Area.

The forum gathered a number of prestigious experts with great influence in the field of materials science and additive manufacturing at home and abroad. Thirteen keynote speeches were delivered by distinguished scholars, including Researcher Wang Pei from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Lu Yiping, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dalian University of Technology; Professor Wang Zhenmin from South China University of Technology; Professor Wang Qiwei, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Jinan University; Professor Zheng Shijian, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Hebei University of Technology; Professor Chen Yuzeng from Northwestern Polytechnical University; Researcher Yan Xingchen, Director of the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Branch of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society and researcher at the Institute of New Materials, Guangdong Academy of Sciences; Researcher Zhang Hongwei from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences; the team led by Professor Song Bo from Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Researcher Yin Wen, Deputy Director of the Spallation Neutron Source Science Center; Professor Ren Fuzeng from Southern University of Science and Technology; Professor Wang Biao from Ningbo University; and Professor Li Runxia, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dongguan University of Technology.


Focusing on frontier topics such as advanced alloy design, material strengthening and toughening mechanisms, key additive manufacturing technologies, interface regulation of metallic materials, and material property evolution under complex service environments, the speakers shared the latest research findings and technological progress of their respective teams. They fully demonstrated the innovation trends and development landscape in the field of materials science, bringing high-standard and in-depth academic exchanges to all participants.


The conference was jointly chaired by Researcher Luo Dong, Director of the Materials Journal Center, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Li Runxia, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Dongguan University of Technology as well as Vice Director of the Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Branch of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society. Each session of the conference was presided over by Professor Hou Hua, Vice President of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology; Researcher Zhang Bo, Deputy Director of Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory; Professor Huang Mingxin from the University of Hong Kong; and Researcher Fu Ying, Deputy Director of Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory respectively. The event attracted nearly 100 experts and scholars from more than a dozen universities and research institutes, fully reflecting its strong appeal and influence in the materials field.

During the conference, Professor Li Runxia organized participating experts to visit scientific research and industrial platforms including Dongguan Eontec Co., Ltd., Spallation Neutron Source Science Center and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, facilitating technical exchanges and project docking.
