On January 3, 2024, Professor Huang Weimin from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, visited DGUT at the invitation of the university for academic exchange and delivered an academic report titled "Rapid Manufacturing Anywhere, Anytime." The exchange session was held in Conference Room A10 of the Interdisciplinary Science Research Center at DGUT and was chaired by Professor Wang Anding of the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The report was conducted in a hybrid format combining online and in-person participation, with dozens of faculty members and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and other units attending.

During the exchange session, Professor Huang Weimin began by discussing working environments where gravity is absent or severely affected by random disturbances, such as outer space, midair, at sea, and on special terrestrial sites. He elaborated on the key challenges faced by rapid manufacturing technologies in harsh environments and proposed a rapid 3D printing technology for polymeric materials in the solid state. This technology enables rapid volumetric additive manufacturing using solid-state UV-crosslinkable polymer materials, with the non-crosslinked portions subsequently removed in a convenient manner. The developed crosslinked polymer exhibits an excellent shape memory effect (SME), which ensures high precision of the printed products. This rapid additive manufacturing technology has already been validated through thermogel, UV-crosslinked vitrimer, and dual-crosslinked resin rapid manufacturing processes.

The report was presented in an accessible yet in-depth manner, offering valuable insights and ideas for the scientific research work of faculty and students, and generating broad interest among the attendees. Following the report, Professor Huang Weimin engaged in discussions with the participating faculty and students on relevant academic topics.
