On the morning of October 23, 2023, President Ma Hongwei led a delegation of principal officials from the University Administrative Office, the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Development Planning, the Department of Scientific Research, the Department of General Affairs and Logistics, and the Institute of Science and Technology Innovation to conduct a research visit to the Interdisciplinary Science Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center").
Accompanied by Professor Wang Biao, Director of the Center, President Ma Hongwei and his delegation toured the offices and laboratories, gaining an in-depth understanding of the Center's current work progress. During the subsequent symposium, Professor Wang Biao presented a detailed report on the Center's construction progress, major achievements in scientific research and talent recruitment, and its future development plans. The heads of various departments expressed high recognition for the remarkable accomplishments the Center has achieved in less than two years since its establishment. They also offered suggestions for the Center's future development, including strengthening cooperation with local industries, enhancing technology transfer and achievement transformation, and emphasizing the recruitment of external talent.
President Ma Hongwei affirmed the Center's achievements in research areas such as quantitative materials design, optoelectronic functional materials, and surface and interface engineering. He noted that the Center has not only produced a series of high-level results oriented toward international frontier research but has also made strategic arrangements aligned with major national needs and the demands of local industries, yielding achievements with notable impact. President Ma put forward recommendations for the Center's future development: first, to continue strengthening external cooperation, especially with institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and military industrial enterprises, to produce application-oriented high-level research achievements; and second, to enhance publicity highlighting the Center's accomplishments, thereby supporting DGUT's goal of establishing itself as a new-type high-level science and engineering university firmly rooted in the Greater Bay Area.
