On the evening of June 15, 2023, Professor Liu Lijun from the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University was invited to visit DGUT and delivered an academic report titled "Crystal Growth Simulation Technology and Engineering Application Examples" at the Interdisciplinary Science Research Center. The session was chaired by Associate Researcher Chen Jiapeng of the School of Materials Science and Engineering and was conducted in a hybrid format combining online and in-person participation, with dozens of faculty members and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and other units attending.

Professor Liu Lijun's report centered on the development and application of numerical simulation techniques in crystal growth technology research. He first introduced the role and significance of numerical simulation in the study of crystal growth techniques, and discussed important concepts and issues that have been overlooked in related simulation research. Using the control of solidification interface morphology in quasi-single-crystalline silicon casting technology as a case study, he elaborated in detail on the key challenges in the modeling process, as well as the approaches and progress made in addressing them. He also offered prospects for future research on the modeling theory and simulation framework for multi-scale and multi-parameter thermodynamic systems in crystal growth. At the conclusion of the report, Professor Liu Lijun engaged in discussions with the attendees and provided detailed answers to questions of interest.

Introduction to Professor Liu Lijun:

Professor Liu Lijun is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, where he serves as Head of the Department of Fluid Machinery and Engineering. He is a recipient of the New Century Excellent Talent award from the Ministry of Education. His research primarily focuses on fluid machinery and system energy-saving regulation, crystal growth, solar photovoltaics, and computational simulation technologies. He serves as a member of the Photovoltaic Committee of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society and as Associate Editor of the Journal of Crystal Growth. He has published over 300 academic papers and holds more than 20 invention patents and software copyrights.
