On the afternoon of May 30, 2023, Professor Chen Yuli from the School of Aeronautic Science and Engineering at Beihang University was invited to visit DGUT and delivered an academic report titled "Multiscale Mechanical Analysis and Customized Design of Advanced Material Structures" at the Interdisciplinary Science Research Center. The session was chaired by Professor Li Runxia, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and was conducted in a hybrid format combining online and in-person participation, with dozens of faculty members and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and other units attending.

Professor Chen Yuli introduced the recent research progress in high-performance advanced materials and structures. These materials are characterized by high spatial complexity and large scale spans, thus exhibiting a dual "discrete-continuum" nature, which presents challenges for mechanical property analysis and performance prediction, while also creating opportunities for mechanics-based structural design. On the one hand, to accurately describe the deformation and failure of multiscale composite materials and predict new mechanical phenomena, her team has established multiscale mechanical analysis models that integrate discrete and continuum approaches. On the other hand, to expand the dimensions of material design, she proposed the concept of three-dimensional pixelated mechanical metamaterial design, enabling rapid customization and re-customization of constitutive curves. She also explored inverse identification methods for complex modulus fields based on machine learning. At the conclusion of the report, Professor Chen Yuli engaged in discussions with the attendees and provided detailed answers to questions of interest.

Introduction to Professor Chen Yuli:

Professor Chen Yuli is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Beihang University. She is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and was recognized as a Young Changjiang Scholar by the Ministry of Education. Her research primarily focuses on the mechanics of multiscale composite materials and the multiscale design of novel materials and structures. She serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, a member of the Mechanics Terminology Review Committee, and a member of the Smart Composite Materials Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials. She also serves as Associate Editor for Composites Part A (China region) and Forces in Mechanics, and as an editorial board member or youth editorial board member for journals including the Chinese Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Chinese Journal of Solid Mechanics, Acta Mechanica Sinica, Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, and Nano Materials Science. She has received the First Prize in Natural Sciences from the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Youth Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and the First Prize in Teaching Achievement of Beijing, among other honors.
