On November 8, 2023, seven professors and scholars, including Zhang Chunyu, Liu Min, Hu Yanying, Sun Qingqing, Liang Chao, and Xu Ze from Sun Yat-sen University, and Zhu Yichao from Dalian University of Technology, were invited to the Interdisciplinary Science Research Center at DGUT for academic exchanges. The symposium, themed "Thermodynamic Strength Theory (TST) and Thermodynamic Deformation Theory (TDT)," was held in Conference Room A10 of the center. The meeting was chaired by Professor Wang Biao, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, and attended by over twenty faculty members, including Vice Dean Professor Li Runxia, Professor Sun Changqing, Professor Wang Anding, and Professor Ma Lianhua.

Academic Exchange Session: Remarks by Dean Wang Biao

Academic Exchange Session: Discussion with Professor Zhu Yichao
Based on the fundamental principles of thermodynamics, Dean Wang Biao has developed the Thermodynamic Deformation Theory (TDT) and Thermodynamic Strength Theory (TST) to accurately predict the deformation and failure of material structures. However, the determination of the dissipated energy density function of materials during the deformation and failure stages using machine learning and experimental methods remains a subject for further investigation. During this academic exchange, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and fully exchanged views on their respective recent research progress.
The specific contents of the academic reports were as follows: Report 1 — An Elastoplastic Numerical Computation Model Based on TDT (Associate Professor Zhang Chunyu); Report 2 — Predicting Material Strength Using the Principle of Virtual Energy (Professor Wang Biao); Report 3 — Single-Bond Approximation in Microscale Solid Mechanics (Professor Sun Changqing); Report 4 — An Overview of Thermodynamic Theory (Associate Professor Chen Jiapeng); Report 5 — Elastoplastic Computation Methods Based on TDT Theory (Lecturer Fu Maoqing); Report 6 — Thermodynamics-Based Plasticity Theory and Its Numerical Solutions (Lecturer Qin Bao).
